Gaucho considers rollout of art deco bar concept

Argentinean steakhouse chain Gaucho Grill is considering rolling out a new bar concept after launching the first site under the format at one of its London restaurants.

The chain introduced the first site, Galante, at its South Kensington restaurant last weekend, according to William Reed's M&C Report.

It is influenced by the art deco movement and features imported bar stools and a cocktail menu devised by Tato Giavanonni, Argentina's 'Bartender of the Decade'.

The bar also features a small food offer taken from the Gaucho kitchen next door.

Gaucho is considering opening up the next site under the concept at its Leeds restaurant.

Each bar will be named after famous bartenders and leading figures from Argentina's cocktail scene.

Galante is named after Santiago 'Pichin' Policastro, one of Argentina's most famous bartenders who had the nickname 'El Barman Galante'.

Charlie McLean, Gaucho director, said that the first opening had been "opportunistic" given the space provided at the South Kensington site.

"However, there are spaces in our sites, such as at Piccadilly, where we believe we can operate something similar or enhance our current bar operation," he told M&C Report.
